Davido was born in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1992 as David Adedeji Adeleke. While attending Oakwood University in his late teens, he developed an interest in music and began composing his own beats and researching music production.
He dropped out of school and moved to Lagos, Nigeria, to pursue music full-time, releasing his debut track, “Back When,” in 2011. The record was quickly followed by the second single, “Dami Duro,” which got some attention for its mix of clubby production, high-energy vocals, and Afro-pop rhythms. Work began on Omo Baba Olowo, his debut album, which was published in 2012 and yielded a slew of singles.
Davido’s success came swiftly, and he kept his fans satisfied with a series of new songs released over the next few years while working on his sophomore album, The Baddest, which was still unreleased as of 2020.
Singles like “Gobe,” “Aye,” and “Pere,” among others, piled up between 2013 and 2017, with collaborations with bigger-name rappers like Meek Mill and Young Thug. Davido also signed a deal with RCA in the interim between albums.

The following year, Davido released his third album, A Better Time. Davido’s colorful and cheerful R&B-infused Afropop was a similarly star-studded affair, with guest appearances from Nicki Minaj, Lil Baby, Sauti Sol, and many others. A Better Time was also a commercial success, debuting at number one on the Billboard charts in its first week of release.
After the release of his smash track, Dami Duro, in 2012, he became a household name in Nigerian music. Omo Baba Olowo, his debut studio album, was critically acclaimed when it was released in 2012. Although he was born in Atlanta, he spent his formative years in Nigeria and returned to Georgia over the holidays. His father is a business magnate, while his mother taught at a university. Davido’s mother, Veronica Imade Adeleke, died when he was 10 years old in 2002. He is the first cousin of Nigerian musicians Shina Rambo and B-Red.
Davido wanted to be a music producer at first, so he bought music equipment and utilized it to make beats while attending Oakwood University. He also had a knack for music promotion, and he was concentrating on developing one of his cousins’ musical career. His cousin, on the other hand, did not work out. He started recording his songs.
