Early life
Ibibio from the state of Akwa Ibom in southern Nigeria, not far from Calabar, is Ini Edo. Her father was a church elder, and her mother was a teacher. Ini Edo, the second of four children—three girls and one boy—had a harsh childhood. In Uyo, Nigeria, she studied at Cornelia Connely College. She earned a diploma in theatre arts from the University of Uyo and graduated. She finished her undergraduate studies in English at the University of Calabar as well. She received a scholarship in 2014 to study law at Nigeria’s National Open University.
Career
In 2003, she made her acting debut in the film Thick Madam. At the audition she attended, a producer chanced upon Ini Edo. When she appeared in World Apart in 2004, she made a breakthrough. She has acted in more than 100 movies. At the 11th Africa Movie Academy Awards, she was nominated for “Best Lead Actress” for her work in the film “While you slept.”
