Early life
Jennifer Lynn Lopez was reared in the Bronx’s Castle Hill district after being born there on July 24, 1969. David López and Guadalupe Rodrguez, her parents, were both born in Puerto Rico but were raised on the mainland of the United States. David worked at Guardian Insurance Company as a computer technician after his time in the service. For the first ten years of Lopez’s life, Guadalupe cared for him at home before going on to work as a Tupperware salesperson[18] and a kindergarten and gym teacher. After 33 years of marriage, they got divorced in the 1990s.
Career
In 1989, Lopez took her first paid position and spent five months touring Europe with the Broadway musical revue Golden Musicals. She was the only chorus member without a solo, and she subsequently described it as a turning point in her life when she understood how crucial having a “thick skin” was in the entertainment industry.
