Leonardo Wilhelm DiCaprio was born in Los Angeles, California on November 11, 1974. He is the sole child of Irmelin (née Indenbirken), a legal secretary, and George DiCaprio, an underground comic book writer, publisher, and distributor; they met in college and went to Los Angeles after graduation. His father has Italian and German ancestors. Wilhelm Indenbirken, his maternal grandpa, was German, and Helene Indenbirken, his maternal grandmother, was a Russian immigrant residing in Germany. DiCaprio was reared in a Catholic household. According to sources, DiCaprio’s maternal grandmother was born in Odesa, Ukraine; however, there is no evidence that DiCaprio has any relatives of Ukrainian origin or heritage.
Career
