Early life

In 1981, Bassey was born in Lagos, Nigeria. Prior to traveling to London to continue his political studies, he studied international relations and politics at the University of Lagos. On the other hand, he attended Middlesex University Summer School to study music.

Nathaniel began playing music in the church, where he played the trumpet for two years in the Rhodes Orchestra. Before writing a song for the late Stella Obasanjo, the late wife of former president Olusegun Obasanjo, he was just a regular trumpet player.
