She identifies as Jewish and has characterized herself as “Irish-German-Lithuanian-Jew.” She was born a healthy baby, although she struggled with asthma throughout her early years. Pink’s parents started experiencing marital issues while she was a toddler, and they split before she turned ten.
When Pink was around 14 years old, she started playing in Philadelphia nightclubs. Around this time, she chose “Pink” as her stage name. She has provided many justifications for how she got to be known by her moniker as a young child. She was persuaded to go to an audition when she was 14 to join the all-female band Basic Instinct, and she was accepted. The group eventually split up without releasing any music. The R&B group Choice was founded by Pink, Sharon Flanagan, and Chrissy Conway when they were all 16 years old. They submitted a CD of “Key to My Heart,” their debut single, to LaFace Records in Atlanta, Georgia. L.A. Reid heard it there and set up the group’s flight so he could watch them play.
