Early life
In Benin City, Divine Ikubor was born into a Christian household. While he was in high school, he began to sing and rap. He went to Ighile Group of Schools in Edo State for both his primary and secondary studies.

Rema shared a popular freestyle to D’Prince’s song “Gucci Gang” on Instagram in 2018. D’Prince saw the message and flew him to Lagos to offer the young musician a record deal. In 2019, Rema agreed to a record deal with D’Prince’s Jonzing World, a division of Mavin Records owned by music executive Don Jazzy. In 2019, he followed up with the self-titled debut EP “Rema,” which reached the top spot on Apple Music Nigeria. The music video for “Dumebi,” a standout track from his self-titled EP, was published on May 21 by Jonzing World and Mavin’s. Diana Eneje had a brief cameo appearance in the video. Ademola Falomo directed the video, which has received 56 million YouTube views thus far.
