She began her career as a gospel singer and released her first studio album, named Ogaju, in 2008. In 2022, she served as one of the top judges on the seventh season of the television program Nigerian Idol. She became well-known in 2014 after releasing “Tiff,” a song that was a 2015 The Headies Best Alternative Song nominee. After her contract with X3M Music expired in May 2019, Simi parted ways with the label. Simi had signed a record deal with the company in 2014.

Early life
Simi was the last of four children to be born on April 19, 1988, in Ojuelegba, a Surulere neighborhood in Lagos State. Simi stated during an interview with Juliet Ebirim of the Vanguard newspaper that her parents divorced when she was nine years old. She also disclosed that she was a tomboy growing up.
