Solána Imani Rowe (born November 8, 1989) is an American R&B singer best known as SZA. She began making music in the early 2010s in St. Louis, Missouri, releasing two extended plays before signing with the hip hop record label Top Dawg Entertainment, through which she released Z (2014), her third EP and first retail release. That same year, she co-wrote Nicki Minaj and Beyoncé’s “Feeling Myself.” She was featured on Rihanna’s song “Consideration” in 2016.

TDE president Terrence “Punch” Henderson was pleasantly surprised by the quality of her early music. After SZA gained attention with the release of her two EPs, TDE stepped in to sign her in 2013, making her the label’s first female artist. SZA’s early music was created with the help of friends and neighbors who “stole a bunch of beats off the Internet.” SZA self-released her debut EP See.SZA.Run on October 29, 2012.
