Tima Godbless breaks 100m record at World Athletics in Colombia

Nigeria’s Tima Godbless chared to a Personal Best (PB) and National Junior Record (NJR) of 11.08s (0.1), to win the fourth heat of the Women’s 100m event at the World Athletics U20 Championships in Cali, Colombia.

Godbless broke the record set by Joan Uduak Ekah which had stood for 23 years by two-hundredths of a second, and was the fastest qualifier across all seven (7) heats of the Women’s 100m.

Her teammate Praise Oforku also qualified for the semifinals from the previous heat, running 11.55s to finish 2nd behind South Africa’s Viwe Jingqi in 11.36s.

The semi-finals and finals will be taking place on Wednesday.

A team of 19 home-based athletes, two foreign-based and five coaches are in Cali, Colombia flying Team Nigeria’s flag.
