
Inetimi Timaya Odon, better known by his stage name Timaya, is a multi-award-winning Nigerian singer and songwriter. He was born on August 15, 1980. He is a native of Odi in the South-South Nigerian state of Bayelsa. In honor of his roots, to which he has given much back, he is affectionately referred to as the Egberi Papa 1 of Bayelsa. Timaya became one of Nigeria’s most well-known performers by fusing dancehall, hip-hop, and soca with Nigerian music. Timaya, who has been dubbed the king of Afro-Soca music, is renowned for his remarkable fusion of Afro-Caribbean/Dancehall music with other musical genres. He is also a signed artist to DM (Dem Mama) Records Limited, which he founded.

Early life
On August 15, 1980, Inetimi Timaya Odon was born in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. He was the youngest of fifteen children raised in a huge family in Agip Estate, Port Harcourt. His mother was a trader, and his father worked in banking. Odon attended the Assemblies of God Nursery And Primary School for his early education. In Port Harcourt, at Nkpolu Oroworukwo, he commenced his secondary schooling. He frequently disobeyed house regulations to go to late-night musical events. Timaya’s mother had plans for him to go to Lagos with his older brother and sister before he could complete his education. He was accepted into Lagos’ Ikeja Grammar School after moving there, and there he eventually graduated with a secondary school diploma.
