“Why My In-Laws-To-Be Didn’t Want Us To Do A Wedding Ceremony” – M.I Abaga Reveals

Popular Nigerian rapper M.I. Abaga shocked his fans and followers when he announced that he and his fiancée Eniola Mafe were now engaged, it was announced April this year.

Everyone was filled with joy for M.I. For a long time, many people believed that he would remain single throughout his life however, he proved that the belief was false and he is now getting married.

And with getting married comes planning a wedding and M.I is realizing now just how stressful and expensive it is. During a new sit down interview with The Beat 99.9FM, M.I. opened up about why exactly he announced his engagement, the overwhelming response he got in return, and why his in-laws-to-be didn’t want him to do a wedding ceremony. Here is what M.I. said.

Talking about his engagement announcement, how people responded, wedding planning, and why his in-laws-to-be didn’t want him to do a wedding ceremony, M.I. Abaga said:

When I shared my engagement announcement, I thought it was going to be like a birthday post where it’ll be like “congrats” and then the next day they move on. So I posted by 7 o’clock on a Sunday evening. Naïve me. Yo, when I tell you I woke up the next morning and I was like what the heck is happening? My phone was going crazy. It was everywhere. But I didn’t want, because we had gotten engaged and she was already wearing a ring, I didn’t want someone else to tell the story and that happens. It had already started leaking out here and there, so I was like, let me say it. Cuz she’s not in the entertainment business so I have to be responsible for a little bit of how she is received and perceived.

Life is life. This year, we are planning a wedding and everything and it has been a lot of stress. Weddings are stress. You know what’s funny? When we first got engaged, her parents told us, they were like “go to Vegas or go to an Island and just do it and then whatever anybody wants to give you, they can just give it to you and you guys can just start your life”, and I was like “Get out of here! Ain’t nobody doing that.” [But now], BRO! If you’re getting married this year in Nigeria, go to the registry and marry. Because it is [stress]. Especially in a year when the dollar is going crazy.
