Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun (born July 16, 1990), better known as Wizkid, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. At the age of 11, he began recording music and published a collaboration CD with the Glorious Five (5), a group he and a handful of his church mates founded. Wizkid secured a record deal with Banky W’s Empire Mates Entertainment in 2009. (E.M.E). Later, he rose to prominence with the release of “Holla at Your Boy,” the first single off his debut studio album, Superstar (2011), which also yielded the hits “Tease Me/Bad Guys” and “Don’t Dull.”

Life and music career

Wizkid was born Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun in Surulere, Lagos, on July 16, 1990. He was raised in an interfaith family with twelve female siblings. His mother is a Pentecostal Christian, but his father is Muslim. Wizkid went to the Ijebu Ode Grammar School. He was raised on the music of King Sunny Ade, Fela Kuti, and Bob Marley. In a 2012 radio interview with Tim Westwood, he stated that “his father had three wives.” He was also there during Sound Sultan’s debut album Jagbajantis’ recording sessions. He mentioned Naeto C as someone who mentored and guided him when he was 15 years old. In 2009, Wizkid signed a record deal with Empire Mates Entertainment. He collaborated on the song ” Omoge You Too Much,” which appears on Banky W.’s The W Experience album.
